Our Review of eHarmony eHarmony is very similar to Match Affinity in that the searching is done for you based on a personality test/questionnaire. The questionnaire is called “eHarmony’s Compatability Matching System” and you fill in prior to joining. The site was started in 1998 in USA, where it has been very successful. It is targeted at people who are looking for a serious long term relationship as opposed to casual dating or a quick fling. It tends to be more popular with the 30-55 age group and claims to be responsible for 5% of marriages in the USA.

Once you have done this you will be presented with your matches based on compatability and you can view their profiles. You also get access to your own personality report. This is based on the questions you answered and contains information about your agreeableness, openness, emotional stability, extraversion and conscientiousness. After completing the questionnaire as research for this eHarmony review I was actually surprised at how well this report described me when I read it!

Like most dating websites you need to pay the membership fee if you wish to contact anyone or view photos. From time to time they also offer a 7 day free trial which allows you to contact other members. You need a credit card for this, but you can cancel before the end of the trial period if you decide that it is not for you.

PROFILE FEATURES: Personal Ad, Upload Multiple Photos, See who has viewed your profile.  You can list your “Must Haves” and “Can’t Stands”, add information “in your own words” such as the most important quality you are looking for in another person, what are 5 thinks that you can’t live without and what are you most passionate about.

SAFETY: eHarmony provides safety rules and guidelines and an email address you can use to report anyone who you think is violating these guidelines.

It takes around 20-45 minutes to fill out the eHarmony Compatability Matching System questionniare, but it is worth taking the time to do this as doing it in a hurry may mean that you miss out on potential matches. After filling out the questionnaire I was presented only 12 matches and I was disappointed to find that they do not provide the ability to search profiles as well. On the plus side, I received over 200 more matches over the next few weeks. Although the number of matches wasn’t huge, it was definitely one of the most promising selections that I’ve seen due to the compatibility matching. Here is a screenshot of part of the EHarmony questionnaire.

If you try EHarmony and feel that you have not been presented with enough matches, they have a nice feature that allows you to relax some of your matching criteria. This allows you to be more flexible about criteria such as age, location, education, religion, ethnicity and income. Another tip is to wait a few days as they will email you whenever they find new matches for you. After waiting a few weeks I had over 200 matches, which may not sounds like much if you are used to traditional dating sites, but remember that all of these people have been matched to you using your personality questionniare, so there is a much higher chance of compatibility.

The EHarmony prices are in the higher range so it is wise to try it out as a free member first and if you like it, save money by opting to pay for multiple months at the same time.
