Our Badoo UK Review Badoo is a free to join dating website and is one of the fastest growing social networks in the world.There are currently over 130 million members worldwide and it is used in over 180 countries. At the time of writing this, Badoo has been growing at a rate of 120,000 members per day, so if you are from the UK you’ll find that there are plenty of members to meet. The philosophy of the site is to create a place to “chat, flirt socialise and have fun”

You can register with Badoo for free, very quickly and easily. Unlike many dating sites you don’t have to spend hours answering questions and it is very simple to create your profile. It took me just a few minutes to register with the site and confirm my email address and then I was asked to upload some photos.

If you want to have a look around first you can skip the photos and go straight to searching for people.  Just choose your preferred age range, whether you are looking for a guy or a girl and how far away from your location you are willing to meet people from. A quick search within the 30-35 age range within 15 miles of my area showed over 4000 people, so not a bad start at all!

When you start browsing you can view everyones’ photo and part of their profile and the full range of photos and full profile becomes available to you after you have added at least 3 photos of yourself

FEATURES: There is a very quick and easy to use search facility allowing you to see people of your preferred age range in your local area. You’ll also find an “Encounters” button – if you click it you’ll be presented with a random person who matches your search criteria. You can click on “Yes”, “No” or  “Maybe” to indicate whether you’d like to meet that person. A popularity guage shows how popular you are on the site. This starts at very low when you join and you can help to increase it by adding photos and completing your profile.

PROFILE FEATURES: Add up to 100 photos to your album, list your interests, say a few words about yourself, say what you’re looking for, personal information such as relationship, sexuality, appearance, children, smoking, drinking, work, languages and living.

SEARCH FEATURES: The Badoo basic search includes age range, girl or guy and location. There is also an advanced search that allows you to search based on up to three other critera including status, education, weight, smoking, drinking, children and various others. To access the advanced search you need to upgrade (aka activating your super powers).

FUN FEATURES: The “Encounters” button will show you a random person that matches your criteria. Just say “Yes”, “No” or “Maybe”. There’s also a Badoo desktop app that you can download and see people who are near you. To be honest though, I would be a little too worried about privacy to download an app that shows people my location!

GAY DATING – if you are a guy looking for another guy, or a lady looking for another lady, then you can register with Badoo in the normal way and just specify this on the initial signup page or inside your profile. When you use the basic search feature you can specify whether you’d like to meet

If you do want to upgrade, the costs are around a quarter of the price of many other UK dating websites. Since this site is free to join and you can browse profiles and photo at no cost, you may find that many of the people on Badoo are no longer active. The best plan is to try it for free first and only consider upgrading if it is working for you.

Here’s what happened when I took the Eharmony free trial for myself!

The first part was pretty easy and took less then a minute. This involved entering my name, whether I was looking for a woman or a man, my postcode and my email address.

After this I was taken to the eHarmony questionnaire. This took me a total of 20 minutes to complete and asked questions about my appearance, religion, health, ethnicity, personality, like and dislikes, values, hobbies and more. You could easily spend longer doing this questionnaire, but it is actually better to be spontaneous, because the more you think about it, the less accurate your answers will probably be!

At the end I also had to state my habits for smoking & drinking and what I would be willing to accept in a partner. Here is an example of part of the questionnaire:

After all these probing questions I was able to select how far away i was willing to travel to date people and whether or not I would be willing to relocate.

Once I’d finished with the EHarmony questionnaire the site recommend that I upload a photo and add additional information to my profile. You don’t have to do this, but you’ll probably get a lot more interest from people if you have photos and a complete profile. If you are not really sure at this stage, just leave this out and you can always add it in later.

After all of this I was shown my potantial matches and could browse through their profiles to learn more about them. Unfortunately I was unable to view any photos as this is something that is only available to paying members, but I had a pretty good idea from looking at the profiles of whether I’d be interested in dating one of these people. Don’t be disheartened if you only have a few matches. I was only shown 12 matches initially, but received over 200 more over the next few weeks.

I was also pretty interested to read my personality report. This report is available as part of the E harmony free trial and is based on the questions you answered. It contains information about your agreeableness, openness, emotional stability, extraversion and conscientiousness. I was fairly surprised at how well this report described me!

Overall, if you are serious about finding that perfect match, it is worth taking half an hour of your time to take the Eharmony Free Trial and see what the system offers you. There is no obligation and you don’t have to spend any money unless you want to upgrade to a paid membership (which you can do at any time you like).

Our Parship UK Review Parship is a popular UK dating website along the same lines as sites like Match Affinity and EHarmony. In a similar way to these sites you need to complete a personality questionnaire in order to see your matches. After completing your questionnaire and a short profile you’ll get instant access to your personal matches along with a “compatibility score” for each of your potential partners.

You can register with Parship for free, complete the personality questionnaire and you’ll instantly see a list of your matches. The questionnaire took me around 25 minutes to complete and included a wide range of questions ranging from my interests and hobbies, to whether I was a morning person or an evening person. I also had to make spontaneous choices between sets of two images and read various scenarios and state what I would do in that situation.I have to admit, some of the questions were slightly bizarre, especially being shown black and white pictures and being asked to choose my preferred name for that particular “dream scene”

After that I had to complete a short questionnaire and then complete a profile, then I had instant access to my matches. I was initially shown 369 matches, but this became 7 matches when I selected my local area rather than the whole of the UK – a little disappointing!

MEMBERSHIP COST: Free registration is available with limited features. Premium membership is £39.90 per month for 1 month, £29.90 per month for 3 months or £19.90 per month for 6 months.

FREE FEATURES: A list of your matches based on your personality questionnaire is provided to you as a free member and you can also use most of the search facilities and view profiles. You’ll need to upgrade to a premium Parship member if you want to see photos of other members. You can also contact other members and your first message to another member is free.

PROFILE FEATURES: The profile is pretty basic as most of the matching is done through your completed questionnaire.  The profile includes your photos (up to 9), basic info such as location, age, body type, education, a description of yourself, sport and leisure info and answers to various questions such as “a perfect day for me is…”. A lot of this is pre-filled from the questionnaire so it shouldn’t take too long to complete and when you look at someone elses profile in Parship you’ll see a compatibility score and a summary of how compatible you are in different areas. If you are not keen on showing your photo you can make it have a blurred appearance and then only show it to people who request to see it.

SEARCH FEATURES: You can search based on age, height, region, children, smokes/doesn’t smoke and interests. Upgraded (premium) members can also search on income and education.

FUN FEATURES: You have the ability to “smile” at someone or send them an “ice breaker”. A “smile” is similar to a “poke” on Facebook and an “ice breaker” is a little multiple choice questionnaire, which is quite a fun way to contact someone.

GAY DATING – if you are a guy looking for another guy, or a lady looking for another lady, then you can register with Parship in the normal way and just specify this on the initial signup page.

Verdict of Parship:

Parship has a nice, easy to use site and the personality test isn’t overly complex. I liked the ability to see a summary of how compatible you were with each potential partner + the details of which areas you are most compatible. Unfortunately for methere were only 7 compatible matches listed in my home town so for this reason I am rating it 3.5 stars out of 5. This may be different for different areas of the UK or different types of personality, so it is still worth registering with Parship for free and taking a look at your matches. You can then decide whether or not you want to be a premium member based on the number of matches that are returned.

If you find like me that there are not many matches in your area, I’d recommend taking a look at Match Affinity or EHarmony UK instead.

To qualify for this offer you must sign up for the 6 month membership, add a profile and photo and initiate a communication with at leat 5 members per month. Signing up is pretty quick – you need to register and confirm your email address then answer a few questions, which takes around 5 minutes or so.

Our Review of eHarmony eHarmony is very similar to Match Affinity in that the searching is done for you based on a personality test/questionnaire. The questionnaire is called “eHarmony’s Compatability Matching System” and you fill in prior to joining. The site was started in 1998 in USA, where it has been very successful. It is targeted at people who are looking for a serious long term relationship as opposed to casual dating or a quick fling. It tends to be more popular with the 30-55 age group and claims to be responsible for 5% of marriages in the USA.

They also have a more expensive membership called the “Total Connect Plan” and this also allows you to call people without them seeing your phone number and get a deeper analysis of your personality.

FREE FEATURES: You can register with eHarmony for free and take their personality test. Once you have done this you will be presented with your matches based on compatability and you can view their profiles. You also get access to your own personality report. This is based on the questions you answered and contains information about your agreeableness, openness, emotional stability, extraversion and conscientiousness. After completing the questionnaire as research for this eHarmony review I was actually surprised at how well this report described me when I read it!

Like most dating websites you need to pay the membership fee if you wish to contact anyone or view photos. From time to time they also offer a 7 day free trial which allows you to contact other members. You need a credit card for this, but you can cancel before the end of the trial period if you decide that it is not for you.

PROFILE FEATURES: Personal Ad, Upload Multiple Photos, See who has viewed your profile.  You can list your “Must Haves” and “Can’t Stands”, add information “in your own words” such as the most important quality you are looking for in another person, what are 5 thinks that you can’t live without and what are you most passionate about.

Our Verdict of eHarmony :

It takes around 20-45 minutes to fill out the eHarmony Compatability Matching System questionniare, but it is worth taking the time to do this as doing it in a hurry may mean that you miss out on potential matches. After filling out the questionnaire I was presented only 12 matches and I was disappointed to find that they do not provide the ability to search profiles as well. On the plus side, I received over 200 more matches over the next few weeks. Although the number of matches wasn’t huge, it was definitely one of the most promising selections that I’ve seen due to the compatibility matching. Here is a screenshot of part of the EHarmony questionnaire.

If you try EHarmony and feel that you have not been presented with enough matches, they have a nice feature that allows you to relax some of your matching criteria. This allows you to be more flexible about criteria such as age, location, education, religion, ethnicity and income. Another tip is to wait a few days as they will email you whenever they find new matches for you. After waiting a few weeks I had over 200 matches, which may not sounds like much if you are used to traditional dating sites, but remember that all of these people have been matched to you using your personality questionniare, so there is a much higher chance of compatibility.

The EHarmony prices are in the higher range so it is wise to try it out as a free member first and if you like it, save money by opting to pay for multiple months at the same time.

It took me a good half hour to complete the profile, but it was worth the effort as the personality report made very interesting reading and was pretty accurate. I was presented with a fair number of compatible matches and I liked the fact that I was not restricted to these matches. The site also has a good search facility so you are not just reliant on the psychometric test results. The downside is that the site is expensive compared to most of the other dating websites, but they do have a lot of good features available to free members, so you can thoroughly explore your site and the matches before making the decision to sign up.  In general you will find a greater number of people on Match Affinity are looking for serious long term relationships rather than quick flings. The site is most popular with the 35-50 age group.
